Cate Blanchett was born in Melbourne, Australia, to June Gamble, a teacher and property developer, and Robert Blanchett, an American Navy officer turned advertising executive. Her father passed away when she was 10 years old, leaving her mother to raise her and her two siblings.
Blanchett attended Methodist Ladies’ College and later studied at the University of Melbourne before leaving to travel abroad. While in Egypt, she had her first taste of acting when cast as an extra in a boxing movie.
