Liam Neeson was born William John Neeson on June 7, 1952, in Ballymena, Northern Ireland. He was raised in a Catholic household by his parents, Katherine “Kitty” Neeson, a cook, and Bernard Neeson, a school caretaker.
As a teenager, Neeson developed a love for boxing and became an amateur champion in Northern Ireland. However, his passion for acting took over, and he studied at Queen’s University Belfast before joining the Lyric Players’ Theatre in Belfast in 1976.
